WHAT IS A TOYGER?
The Toyger breed is still in development and were recognized by TICA for Registration Only early in the 1990's. Toyger cats are a striped breed domestic cat.
The Toyger cat is descended from Bengal cat stock crossed with domestic cats. The aim was to cross these cats to produce a striped 'toy tiger'.
The perfect Toyger has a strong chin, small round ears, a long muzzle, and a broad nose. Its coat has flecks of golden “glitter,” and its movements are “reminiscent of the big cats.”
Currently, no Toyger embodies all of these attributes. Some 400 Toygers registered, most of them being bred by Sugden and about 20 colleagues worldwide, it could be several years before the cat looks amazingly like its 500-pound muse—Sugden hopes by 2010.
